Each year, the University of Montpellier organizes the Innovation Prize through its University Innovation Hub (PUI) and in partnership with the Montpellier Métropole. This competition aims to reward researchers who successfully transform their scientific discoveries into high-impact projects.

To celebrate the winners of this edition, the official award ceremony took place at the Orangerie of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier, during an "Innovation Afterwork". It was during this evening that our co-founder received the special "Coup de Cœur" prize, awarded directly by Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.

An award rooted in Montpellier's academic research

It is precisely his status as an Associate Professor at the University of Montpellier and a pharmacist at the Nîmes University Hospital that is recognized today. This "Coup de Cœur" prize, awarded directly by the Métropole, highlights years of academic work on 3D printing of medicines.

This field work had already been distinguished during the Companies & Campus challenge with the 3Dpedia project, which laid the foundations of 3D printing for pediatrics in connection with the Nîmes University Hospital. Today, within MB Therapeutics, Ian Soulairol co-leads the scientific development of this technology to enable it to become part of the daily life of hospitals and patients.

Why is 3D printing of medicines appealing?

3D printing of medicines makes it possible to meet specific needs, particularly in pediatrics, where standard dosage forms are not always suitable. This approach allows for the manufacturing of tailor-made treatments by precisely adapting the active ingredient dose to the child's weight and age, while offering shapes and specific characteristics designed to make taking the treatment easier on a daily basis (dispersible, orodispersible, etc.).
